Tell your legislators
In its Dec. 15, 1995 Doe v. Gomez decision, the Minnesota Supreme Court gave our state the most permissive abortion policy in the nation. The court ruled that women have an absolute “right” to abortion. It also stated that taxpayers must pay for abortions performed on women who cannot afford them. While the majority of Minnesotans are morally opposed to abortion, around one third are now paid for with our tax dollars. If the federal Roe v. Wade decision legalizing the destruction of unborn babies were overturned tomorrow, we would continue to have abortion on demand in Minnesota due to the Doe v. Gomez ruling.
As concerned citizens, we can help end this injustice by contacting our legislators requesting that they pass a state law to end taxpayer-funded abortions. Supporting the life-affirming efforts of the Lakes Life Care Center and St. Bridget’s Baby Blanket program, which help local families in need, are positive actions that can be taken.
