FLHS National Honor Society students got up early on a recent day off of school to help Masquers Theatre prepare for their upcoming production. Hunter Shortly, Liz Blount, Ross Schultz, Bethany Blackmer, Emma Jorgenson, Katherine Watson and Matt Wallner met at Vannelli’s by the Lake at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 19 to help load in and build sets for the upcoming “Forbidden Broadway.” Son of one of the cast members Blaine Anderson, cast member Zach Marleau, and stage manager Libby Vass also helped.
The idea of using Honor Society students was brought up at a Masquers board meeting, but the board wasn’t sure it would get much of a response considering the day was a holiday for students. Set constructor and sound and lighting designer Jay Schueller thought the kids were a great help and was even able to recruit Blaine Anderson to work with him on building sets at the University of Northwestern – St. Paul next fall, where Anderson will be attending school.
Forbidden Broadway is a dinner theater show, produced in partnership with Vannelli’s by the Lake and will open at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29. Additional performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31, Feb. 5-7 (dinner served at 6 p.m.) and 2 p.m. Feb. 8 (dinner served at 12:30 p.m.).
