Forest Lake’s fifth annual kickoff to summer and tribute to its past begins Friday, as residents enjoy Lake Fest from May 29 through June 5.
As is tradition, the Rockin’ Hollywoods start the weeklong celebration with a free concert from 6:30-9:30 p.m. May 29 at the Lakeside Park Gazebo. That will be followed by a free showing of “Planes: Fire & Rescue” in the park at dusk.
Lake Fest reaches its crescendo the following day, as a variety of family events are scheduled throughout the day (all Lakeside Park activities are free). Highlights include the 9 a.m. Johnson/Turner Legal Calorie Burner 5K run, which benefits the Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau, the elementary school build-a-boat challenge from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Bald Eagle Waterski Show from 2-3 p.m. and the Revvv, White and Blue Classic Car Show from noon to 3 p.m. at the American Legion.
After Saturday, there is at least one event per day from May 31 through June 5. Many of the events celebrate Forest Lake’s past or look to its future, like the Forest Lake Area School District Halls of Fame Induction and Forest Lake Area High School Academic Awards Night, held from 7-9 p.m. on June 1. The festivities wrap up on June 5, with a dueling pianos TEFFLA fundraiser at Vanelli’s at 6 p.m., Forest Lake Area High School graduation at 7 p.m. and class reunions for FLAHS alumni from 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s from 8 p.m. to midnight at Vanelli’s.
