Thanks to veterans

On Monday, May 25, Memorial Day, I was very proud to be a Forest Lake American. On a wet and gloomy morning, hundreds attended the ceremony at the American Legion honoring our veterans. Every table and chair was full, with no extra standing room available. People parked for blocks, and many brought small children to be a part of this special day. The keynote speaker, Steve Sorkan, was excellent, and because of his speech, I will remember to ask veterans to tell their stories. We can’t appreciate our freedom if we don’t know about the veterans who secured it for us. Thanks to all veterans, past and present!

Hypocritical behavior

I find it somewhat puzzling that the Republican leadership, after taking control of the House and Senate in Washington, D.C., has not struck down the ban on carrying firearms in the Capitol and the House and Senate office buildings, where they have control.

If they truly believe an armed citizenry is a basic freedom outlined in the Constitution, why have they not abolished these rules and allow the Second Amendment rights in the U.S. Capitol and offices?

Better yet, where is the NRA on this issue? It seems to me there is a double standard here that they seem to be ignoring; these elected leaders seem to think that Second Amendment protections end at their office doors. Meanwhile, they allow the general public to be exposed to those very people they call patriots, even though they seem to fear them being armed in their presence.

Seems to me that we have have a lot of weak-kneed hypocrites pandering for the support on Second Amendment rights for the rest of the country but who don’t walk the walk when it affects them.
