It was a frigid night for skiing Jan. 12, but the Ranger boys and girls Alpine ski teams braved the temperature in their second Suburban East Conference meet at Afton Alps.

The Forest Lake boys earned first place on the evening, totaling 669 points to beat out Stillwater (649 points) and Mounds View (578 points).

Senior Marty Longsdorf earned fourth place overall, placing behind Woodbury’s Jack Midtlien, Mounds View’s Kaarl Damberg and Stillwater’s Patrick Allen, respectively.

Ranger junior Zach Ochsenbauer came next for Forest Lake with an eighth place finish, followed by ninth-grader Mitchell Longsdorf in 10th place while senior Nate Patterson finished 12th. Taking 16th on the day was senior Joe Alberg.

Other point conrtibutors inccluded senior Max Stangler (20th place), ninth-grader Jack Callahan (29th) and senior Johnny Full (36th).

On the girls side, Forest Lake finished in second place as a squad with 625 points. Stillwater won with 683 points, and the Mustangs came in third with 564 points.

Junior Elli Rodsjo jumped four places from last week’s overall finish of eighth place to take fourth at the Alps. The first-place finish again was Juliana Damberg of Mounds View.

For the Rangers, junior Sydney Norcross came in 12th place, followed by a sweep of places 23-26 starting with eighth-grader Morgan Tomas, sophomore Avery Jorgenson, ninth-grader Kelli Bush and senior Maggie Longsdorf.

Rounding out the team score was ninth-grader Kelley Alberg (32nd place), senior foreign exchange student Antonia Witzleb (37th) and Bridget Beynon (38th place).

Head coach Grant Lindemer is keeping track of the conference standings in another tough SEC season.

“After race No. 2 of 5, the score for the boys is Stillwater 1292, Forest Lake 1291; it doesn’t get much closer than that,” Lindemer said. “The girls appear to be in a solid second place in the conference standings as well.”

Next, Forest Lake competes at 5 p.m. at Wild Mountain on Thursday, Jan. 21.
