Scandia’s Vinterfest 2016 will be held Jan. 29 and 30 (goo.gl/GWkL1d). The official commemorative button for the annual event can be purchased at businesses throughout the Scandia area. A $2 minimum suggested donation to support the development of Lilleskogen park will get you an official Vinterfest 2016 button. You can find them at Security State Bank, Meister’s Bar and Grill, Scandia Market and Mercantile, Scandia Olde Towne Liquor, Todd’s Home Center, and Forest Lake Floral. The Scandia Parks and Recreation Committee sponsored Vinterfest will feature appearances by a Saami Reindeer Herder Elder throughout the course of the event.
Vinterfest fun will begin with third annual “Scanley Cup” adult hockey tournament to raise money for the Scandia skating rink. The hockey tournament will run both days. Meister’s Bar and Grill will be hosting a beer garden in the hospitality tent alongside the skating rink.
The Scandia-Marine Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 30. A snow sculpture contest will be held on that same day from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be cash prizes and medals for first, second, and third place in a 12 and under division as well as an adult/child combo division.
A Vintage Snowmobile Show (goo.gl/tfw7cx) will be held on Big Marine Lake starting with a show and swap at 9:30 a.m. Other activities include a vintage snowmobile contest with judging at 1 p.m. and a vintage snowmobile ride at 1:30 p.m. Shoreline trails will be open all day and the Vets Camp Cantina will be open for food and beverage service. Scandia Cub Scout Pack 173 will be hosting its annual Vinterfishing ice fishing contest on Goose Lake on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. The tournament is for children ages 15 and under and features prizes for the first, second and third biggest fish. See www.scandiavinterfishing.com for more information.
