REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
August 7, 2014

The following unapproved minutes have been revised for publication and will be approved at the next School Board Meeting. The full text is posted on the district web site, available by standard or email, and for public inspection at the school district offices during normal business hours.
The regular mtg. of the School Board of ISD No. 831, Forest Lk., MN, was called to order by Rob Rapheal at 7 p.m. on 8-7-14, at the School District Offices. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, roll was called and the following members were present: Julie Corcoran, Karen Morehead, Robert Rapheal, Gail Theisen and Supt. Linda Madsen, ex officio. Members Bystrom, Kieger and Turner were absent.
The mtg agenda was reviewed and unchanged.
Listening Session: Mmbr Corcoran rptd 3 young men from Boy Scouts talked about getting their merit badge.
The new FLEA pres, Allison Whittlef, introduced herself to the bd.
Student Achievement:
Supt Madsen thanked Jim Caldwell for stepping in the last part of last year as the interim principal at Linwood Elem. Principal Caldwell shared with the bd his vision for the Linwood sch.
The Lino Lakes Community Problem Solving Team coach L. Sauer and 6 students rptd to the bd. The team took 3rd place at intl competition in Iowa. They thanked the community and bd for their support.
Positive Happenings: Sch Bd Mmbrs rptd on sch prog & events attended the past month including: community mtgs, Arts in the Park, Fun Run in the Forest, settling union contracts, attending the MSBA summer seminar. The bd thanked Comm Ed for their hard work and the many classes they offer.
Reports:
City of Forest Lake Mmbr Theisen rptd the city will be making improvements to parks, the compost site is still closed, the city center tour was 7/14 and community rooms will be available for public use, the YMCA has not determined a location.
EMID Mmbr Morehead rptd EMID is in the process of doing the Exec Dir eval. They meet again in August.
916 Mmbr Theisen rptd on the Karner Blue Ed. Center which serves learners with various learning challenges.
Supt. report: Dr. Madsen rptd she, members of staff and the police dept, attended a School Threat Mgmt and Violence Prevention training sponsored by the Wash Cty Atty office, she attended the state supt conference, the new Comm Ed booklet is out and celebrating 25 years of child care. 9/2 is the first day of school, School Connections newsletter is out and contains a lot of back to school information, 8/13 Maranatha will host the Resource Fair Living on Less, elem open houses will be 8/27, Growing TEFFLA at Waldoch Farms is 9/18. Dr. Madsen reviewed the new staff and leadership positions for this school year.
Consent agenda: Mmbr Morehead moved to appv Consent agenda items 7.1-7.3. The motion was 2nd by Mmbr Theisen. All mmbrs present voted aye and the motion carried.

Donations: Mmbr Corcoran moved, 2nd by Mmbr Theisen, to adopt the resolution accepting donations: $469.87 from Steve Lafean, FL, Wells Fargo Emp Contribution program to Scan Elem for student enrichment prog; $313 from Ron Haken, FL to Comm Ed LINK for scholarships for participants; Freedom Concepts bike from Dawn & Nicholas Tomasko, Wyom, to Special Ed Dept; $250 from First State Bank of Wyoming to Wyom Elem for parent handbook/calendar; $647.74 from Kelly Carlson-Jagersma, Marine, to Scan Elem for student enrichment prog; $718.23 from Knights of Columbus, Anthony Angelo, FL Grand Knight #03657 to Comm Ed- LINK for LINK programs; $1000 from Regents of the U of M, Mpls, to Scan Elem for student enrichment and activities; $7384.60 from SEEF, Liz Tarlizzo, Scan, to Scan Elem for tech upgrades; $500 from Forest Hills United Methodist Church, FL, to FLAS family support; $150 from Jennifer &Brian Tolzmann, FL, to FLAS family support. All mmbrs present voted aye and the motion carried.
Old Business:
Mmbr Corcoran moved to Appv Sch Bd Mmbr Liaisons to schools for 2014-15. The motion was 2nd by Mmbr Morehead, all mmbrs present voted aye & the motion carried.
Mmbr Corcoran moved to Appv the 2014-16 Custodial, Maintenance & Laundry Employment Agreement. The motion was 2nd by Member Theisen, by roll call vote all mmbrs present voted aye & the motion carried.
Mmbr Morehead moved to Appv the 2014-16 Mechanics Employment Agreement. The motion was 2nd by Mmbr Corcoran, by roll call vote all mmbrs present voted aye & the motion carried.
Mmbr Theisen moved to Appv the 2014-2016 School Age Care (SAC) Agreement. The motion was 2nd by Mmbr Corcoran, by roll call vote all mmbrs present voted aye & the motion carried.
Mmbr Morehead moved to Appv the 2014-2016 Bus Drivers & Bus Aides Agreement. The motion was 2nd by Mmbr Theisen, by roll call vote all mmbrs present voted aye and the motion carried.
Supt Future Contract Mmbr Corcoran moved to enter into negotiations to offer the Supt a new contract. The motion was 2nd by Mmbr Morehead, by roll call vote all mmbrs present voted aye and the motion carried.
Bond Discussion: The next sch bd mtg will be 8/12 at 8:05 pm. Bd mmbrs will rpt on community mtgs they attended and Bill Morris from The Morris Leatherman will present survey results.
The 8/13 sch bd mtg will be at 6 pm. Bond discussion will continue and a decision on whether or not to go forward with a November election. Supt Madsen has scheduled a mtg with MDE on 8/14 as the deadline to submit the Review and Comment for a November vote is 8/15.
Pat Overum passed out a 3 question scenario to bd mmbrs to review. Dr. Madsen encouraged bd mmbrs to email questions to her or Larry Martini and they will get answers to them before next Tuesdays bd meeting. She also asked that community mtg notes be sent to her or Connie and they will be compiled and emailed to all and available at the next mtg.
New Business: No new business rptd.
Communications: The Sch Bd revwd communications and upcoming calendar dates.
As there was no further business, Mmbr Corcoran moved, 2nd by Mmbr Theisen to adjourn. All mmbrs present voted aye and the mtg. adjourned at 8:05 pm.
