Linwood Town Board heard good news

There is good news for Linwood Township and residents of local lakes. Supervisor Bob Millerbernd reported at the Dec. 10 Town Board meeting that the Department of Natural Resources has awarded a grant of $435,000 to the Sunrise River Water Management Organization.
The money will be used to install carp barriers in the Sunrise River flowage at four points between Typo and Martin lakes. The project has been under discussion at least two years.
Engineers and township officials will meet in early 2014. Installation of the barriers will likely begin as soon as bids have been reviewed because water levels are usually lower in the winter.
Other business
The board approved changing building inspector Kevin Tramm’s position from a contract one to that of a full-time employee effective Jan. 1. Besides his inspection duties, Tramm is good at working with those seeking building permits, Supervisor Ed Kramer said. In addition to increased building activity in the township, new state mandates related to monitoring septic systems will add to his workload. The increase is from 20 hours a week up to 40 at a rate of $22 an hour.
Linwood supervisors also welcomed Dawn Cash, Linwood’s new senior coordinator. Cash is meeting residents and staff and learning the ropes from Judy Hanna, who will retire from the position Dec. 31. The Senior Advisory Board met Dec. 16.
Materials have arrived to build a shed at the recycling center. Kramer will begin the work, with help from volunteers and township employees. Those interested in volunteering should call 651-462-2812. The recycling center will accept Christmas trees in January. It is open the fourth Saturday of the month.
The board also:
– Unanimously accepted a proposed contract for the 2013 audit in the amount of $24,200 from HLB Tautges Redpath, LTD. This represents an increase of 2.5 percent from 2012.
– Learned a retirement party and potluck for Hanna is planned for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Senior Center.
– Learned that trails are being groomed in the Linwood Community and School Forest, and that volunteers are beginning to flood the skating rinks in town. The pleasure rink will likely be flooded by Christmas and the hockey rink will be opened as soon as it can be flooded. Anyone experienced in flooding and maintaining hockey rinks can volunteer to help by calling 651-462-2812. Plans are to schedule a skating party in January.
