Members of the Stillwater-based Croix Chordsmen, featuring vocalists from Forest Lake, will be among the massed chorus to sing the National Anthem at the Minnesota Twins game on Aug. 30.
Every year, more than 100 men from all of the Barbershop chapters in the area attend one of the Twins home games and sing the National Anthem. This year the Chordsmen are inviting any men who like to sing to go along with them. Some of the Chordsmen have been doing the Twins games for many years and at one time they had close to 300 men on the field. The story goes that the Barbershoppers continue to be invited back simply because they know the correct words and always sing the right melody.
The group will leave Stillwater at 11:20 a.m. Aug. 30 and join up with the rest of the singers to warm up before the game. Any men who want to go along, should call chorus manager Tyler Smith at 651-439-4527. All singers sit in a special section of Target Field, and therefore tickets need to be ordered three weeks ahead.
Men who like to sing can join the chorus at its next regular rehearsal at 7 p.m. on July 28 at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church on Olive St. in Stillwater.
