Gary J. Gorton, age 70, died while surrounded by his family following a battle with Melanoma on Monday, September 7, 2015.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota, served in the United States Air Force, and retired in 2004 following 30 years with the DNR.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Anna (Raleigh) Gorton; wife Gladys "Jean"; brother, William.
He is survived by his sons, Chris (Monica), Mark; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Breanna, Hannah, Natalie, Tanis; siblings, Bev (Alton) Edwards, Mary (Casey) Bartel, Joe Gorton, Tony (Lexie) Gorton; other family and friends.
Gary was a very loving and helpful man. He was always willing to stop and help a friend or stranger in need. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, the great outdoors, including camping, hunting and fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Church of Saint Peter, 1250 South Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Sunday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake and from 9-10 a.m., Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Calvary Cemetery, Forest Lake. Memorials may be directed to Melanoma Research Alliance Foundation.
