Sheriff William Hutton has announced that the Washington County Sheriff’s Office’s 22nd Annual Local Law Enforcement Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on May 16. The ceremony will begin promptly at noon in front of the Washington County Historic Courthouse in Stillwater.

Last year, citizens, Washington County Board Members, 10th District judges, and local government officials witnessed the event along with representatives from law enforcement agencies throughout Washington County and the state of Minnesota.

The annual ceremony is held in recognition of National Correctional Officers Week, May 1 to 7, and National Peace Officers Week, May 15 to 21. Ceremonies will also be held at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. Local observance is being held on the State Capitol grounds (for more information see mnlema.org) to honor officers from Minnesota who have given their lives in the line of duty.

The public is encouraged to attend the ceremony at the Historic Courthouse, 101 West Pine Street in Stillwater, and share in fellowship, including cake and refreshments, following the event.
