
Join the Washington County Historical Society May 22 at 2 p.m. for the first installment of the “Hay Lake Speaker Series.” This event is free to the public, with donations accepted. The presentation will feature Olivia Nienaber who is behind the creation of the barn quilt trail project located in Scandia, Marine on St. Croix, and the town of May.
The Washington County Barn Quilt Trail is approximately 16.4 miles in its route that winds through the three rural towns. Throughout the tour, guests can view seven barn quilts with patterns from the book “The Quiltmaker’s Gift.” The trail goes through farm areas, a state park, downtown, and historic sites. The project has boasted more than 60 volunteers, varying in ages. Nienaber will speak on the creation of the original trail, its meaning for the county, and also the upcoming installation of the second trail to be placed in the county.
